Empiric: not to fast there Bessie an answer for now Caricatures often rely on context to convey meaning. The surrounding environment, props, or other visual elements can help establish the tone or theme of the caricature. Examples Thomas Nast, a renowned American cartoonist, used powerful illustrations to expose the corruption of William “Boss” Tweed’s political machine in 1870s New York. Tweed, the leader of Tammany Hall, was notorious for his abuse of power, embezzlement, and cronyism. Nast’s cartoons, published in Harper’s Weekly, targeted Tweed’s corruption, ridiculing his excesses, and highlighting the suffering of ordinary citizens.
