Away-Ink: Could that be sticker art?

Hosting this post is Empiric.
The day has come for “Used or Not” and this month’s rabbit hole question is added to with the following, the concept of quantity vs. quality is much older and has been discussed in various fields, including philosophy, economics, and business. The idea that quantity can have a quality of its own is present in John Stuart Mill’s concept of utilitarian philosophy, where the quality of happiness can be affected. In the context of business and entrepreneurship, the phrase has been used to describe the importance of scale and volume in achieving success. For example, quantity can be a powerful driver of success, even if individual quality is not as high. In a different context, the concept of quantity vs. quality has been explored in the context of education, where researchers have studied the relationship between quantity of learning (e.g., number of hours spent studying) and quality of learning
(e.g., depth of understanding). A professor divided a class into two groups, one graded on quantity of work produced and the other on quality of a single piece of work and found that the group graded on quantity produced better overall work. Overall, while the specific phrase “Quantity has a quality all its own” may have originated with Stalin or been popularized, the concept of quantity vs. quality has been debated and explored in various fields for centuries.
